Revisit an exciting heritage technique that is fun to learn and is a great stash-busting craft. Dorset button-making is a useful and creative way to embellish embroidery projects, fasten clothing items, and make gorgeous jewelry. Students will learn how to apply traditional button-making techniques to create a lovely shawl pin, and a coordinating necklace and bracelet. Students will have a choice of one of four colorways, and a choice of a silver or gold metallic thread. The class includes a slideshow and entertaining lecture about traditional Dorset button history, as well as an introduction to all of the heritage steps used to create these thread-wrapped treasures.
The kit includes a copy of Pat’s book "Crafting Thread Shawl Pins" as well as custom instructions for the pieces that are not in the book. If a student owns the book, they may deduct the cost from the kit price ($26.95 on Amazon).
Students will need to bring scissors, a tape measure, and lighting and magnification if needed.
