We Invite You to Join in the Fun!
SHNG is an independent needlework guild which meets at Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens in Akron, OH. Guild members must hold a membership in Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, attend at least two regular meetings each year, and be involved in two Guild activities, at least one of which must be associated with our needlework shows.
The Guild’s mission is to
Educate members in various facets of stitchery techniques,
Promote fellowship among needleworkers,
Sponsor a needlework show (Stitchery Showcase or the Textile Arts & Artisan Show) for the benefit of Stan Hywet,
Stimulate interest in and support textile-conservation projects for Stan Hywet.
New members are accepted throughout the year; dues are $15.00 per year. When joining on or after September 1st, membership will be extended through the next year.
Guild Events at Ohio Mart
During Ohio Mart in October, members help to coordinate, set up, and stage either the Stitchery Showcase or the Textile Arts & Artisan show.
In addition, the Guild hosts the Children’s Corner and Stitchers’ Fair tents. Members typically gather in July to assist with preparing kits for Children’s Corner. This coincides with the Adult/Child Workshop that is offered to the public in July.
Our Year in Review
Stitching Year: April through November
Guild meetings are held on second Tuesdays:
Daytime: April, May, August, November
Evenings: June and September
Each meeting day includes a lecture or a workshop, most of which are taught by local or nationally known teachers as a 1-day event. In addition, for national teachers, a second 2-day workshop is scheduled either before or after the 1-day workshop twice a year, typically in May and November.
Exceptions to regular meeting dates and times will be communicated here on the website and also in the Guild newsletter, The Needleworker, which is emailed or mailed to all members and contains the registration forms for each meeting.
